What actually affects the cost of building an MVP
The real drivers behind an MVP quote, and how to shape your scope so you launch sooner without cutting the parts that matter.
“How much will it cost?” is the first question we get, and the honest answer is “it depends on a handful of things you control.” Here they are.
1. How many user types you have
A product for one kind of user is much simpler than one with customers, vendors and admins. Each role adds screens, permissions and testing. Start with the one that makes you money.
2. Payments and money movement
Taking a one-off payment is simple. Subscriptions, upgrades, instalments, refunds and failed-payment retries are not, because each case needs handling. If payments are central to your product, plan for it early.
3. Third-party integrations
Every outside service (email, maps, messaging, accounting, an AI model) means reading its documentation, handling its errors and testing it. Choose integrations that are essential for launch and leave the rest for later.
4. Custom design versus a clean standard look
A clean, consistent interface built from proven patterns is quick. Heavy custom animation and one-off layouts take far longer. Spend design time on the screen where users decide to pay.
5. Mobile apps
A responsive website reaches phones already. Add an Android app when you have a reason, such as offline use, notifications or app-store visibility.
6. How clear the requirements are
Unclear scope is the biggest hidden cost. A one-page description of who uses the product, what they do first, and what “done” means for version one saves weeks.
How to launch sooner
Write down the single journey a new user must complete. Build only that. Everything else goes on a “version two” list. We’ll then give a fixed quote with milestones, so you know the cost before work starts.
